One Brooklyn Player Could Soon Have the $294-Million Powerball Jackpot All to Themselves

Lottery winnings and grand jackpots are among the most exciting pieces of information to emerge, as they are inevitably linked to quite the exaltation and a brand new millionaire ready to bag their big prize. Canadians are known for being some of the most avid lottery enthusiasts, but this Thursday revealed that New York State Lottery might turn one Powerball player a multimillionaire with the help of a winning ticket of $298.3 million sold in Brooklyn.

A single jackpot-winning ticket was sold in the East New York at the Arnold Service Station on Linden Boulevard. The exact location where the purchase was made could be pinpointed thanks to the information New York State Lottery collects and the database it keeps. The gas station where someone purchased the winning ticket is now probably the most popular gas station in the region, as one lucky player could soon become richer than ever before.

Sole Winning Ticket Sold at a Gas Station

This Wednesday saw the most recent lottery draw which highlighted the numbers 05-25-38-52-67. In addition to them, there was also the Powerball: 24 and the Power Play: 2. This means that there is now a ticket with the same exact number combinations printed on it and someone is eligible for a windfall of great magnitude.

In the spirit of the season of giving, the Powerball will be more than generous to the player who is in possession of this tiny piece of paper of great value. For the time being there has not been anyone approaching the lottery provider and claiming their prize, but this could happen in the upcoming weeks. According to the rules in this situation, once the ticket has been validated as the winning one, the fortunate player has a total of 60 days to make a crucial choice.

The two options are receiving annual payments for the next 30 years until the entire $298.3-million jackpot is paid out, or bagging an immediate windfall of $180.2 million. The latter option guarantees instant cash and the opportunity to spend it any way possible, but it is also the least financially beneficial for the winner. However, the annuity payments are taxable, meaning that every year the allocation will be smaller because of that.

Who Else Won This Wednesday?

The lump-sum payment will also be subjected to taxes that are even larger, due to the amount. We are yet to see what the winner will choose to do with the jackpot they are eligible for. Only one player will bag big, but there are three players who managed to pinpoint all five of the balls sans the Powerball.

Those individuals have purchased their winning tickets in Florida, Illinois, and Wisconsin and could now bag $1 million each. There is also a ticket sold in New Jersey with as many as four correct numbers in addition to the Powerball and this is going to bring its owner $50,000 if they claim the cash prize.

When it comes to the state, this fall is one of the special ones, as November saw Robert Bailey, a 67-year-old resident of Manhattan bag his $125-million share of the $687-million jackpot. The rest of it went to Lerynne West from Iowa. Sunday is going to see the next drawing, offering a jackpot of $40 million.
